Here we try to answer some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQ’s):

1. What is Lockdown?

Lockdown generally means a state of isolation or restricted access to an area or set of activities. In this context Lockdown means the restriction of people to all public places including educational institutions, Cinema halls, Multiplexes, Shopping malls, etc. It also prohibits the travel of passengers from one state to the other. It is like a curfew with some exemptions.

2.Which services are exempted from the Lockdown?

Essential Services like groceries, health, fire and safety and some PSU’s are exempted from lockdown.

3. How can covid-19 be controlled by imposing Lockdown?

Covid-19 can survive in air for a period of 2 hours and hence makes it an air-borne threat. With the imposition of Lockdown there would be negligible human activity in public places as people are confined to their homes and hence avoiding the community transmission of the virulent disease. This practice has been very effective in Wuhan which has been the epic centre of this virus. The virus has an incubation period of 14 days in human body after which it starts to show its symptoms like severe cough, cold and fever or Pneumonia. So, 21 days lockdown when practised strictly can be significant in controlling the spread of the disease.

4. Which countries are most affected by this lethal disease?

Covid-19 is accelerating at a rapid pace in European countries with Italy leading the chart of individuals effected by the corona virus followed by Spain. These countries have more than 100,000 cases of the corona. The front runner of the pandemic is the USA with almost 200,000 cases. Interestingly, the pandemic impact has been minimal in china for the past few weeks it reported an overall 81,000 cases till date. India has seen a sharp rise in the novel COVID-19 in the past couple of days thanks to the Religious congregation held at Nizamuddin, Delhi. India has nearly breached the 2,000 marks.

5. Why will the Lower-Class people be affected by this lockdown?

In India many lower-class people rely heavily on daily wage works for their living. With the Lockdown in place, there is no room for any developmental activity in the country in which these individuals can work and earn their wage. Hence, this lockdown period will be a nightmare for all daily wage labourers and migrant workers.

6. What are the steps taken by Govt. to help the lower class?

The Govt. of India has announced several incentives like increasing the MNREGA pay scale from 182/- to 202/- per day, provisions of essential food materials like 15kg Wheat/Rice and 5 kg dal for free through Public Distribution Services (PDS) or Ration shops. Govt. also promised to credit farmers 2000/- as part of the PM-Kissan Yojana in this month instead of June. Govt. also promised 500/- to nearly 20 crore women cardholders across the country.
